These thick leathers have a distinct grain and shine well.
Goodyear Leather Welt/Dual Guard® construction makes for a long lasting boot. Leather welts expand and contract with changing temperatures and this natural flex decreases welt splitting and breaking. Plus, this construction style is easier to resole because the welt (which holds the sole on) is stitched to the insole.
Although the welts have this natural flex, lateral support is second to none. Leather welts are very difficult to twist, and lateral support is especially important on uneven terrain or general work conditions where there is a lot of foot motion.
Dual Guard® is a steel plate that adds protection to your foot. These provide puncture resistance as used in fireman's boots.
The midsole is like building the foundation of a house. A solid foundation provides proper foot support and starts with a 4 iron rubber midsole which allows a solid adhesion to the outsole. The signature look for a Chippewa® welted boot is the robus midsole. This construction increases rigidity and reduces extreme flexibility in new boots. The boot creates a flex point and breaks in to your foot within a few days of being worn. Boots with robus midsoles demand to be worked, not babied.
The original Vibram® sole, the 132 Yellow Plug was created for use on outdoor footwear. Lugs are angled to provide substantial edging capabilities on both ascent and descent. The center medallion of carrarmato lugs provide maximum traction.
The exclusive Vibram® compound guarantees maximum traction on wet/dry surfaces and various terrain. This compound maintains its physical properties in extreme temperatures. All compounds are developed and chosen by considering the sole design and end use of the intended footwear.
Care:
- Remove loose dirt or dust with brush or rag
- Clean thoroughly with leather conditioner or balm
- Apply a thin coat of neutral shoe cream, then brush or rub with a soft cloth until luster is obtained
- For a high luster, apply a thin coat of wax polish on dark colors. Brush or rub again.
