You take control in making the Build Your Own Leather Vest - your style, your way! You can choose the following features: leather type, leather color, leather thickness, hardware (including our Authentic US Minted Coin Snaps, which are handcrafted here in Grayson County), VA), size, pockets, and trim.

The Classic Motorcycle Vest above is pictured with FCL Black snaps and solid sides.

Because we want you to be completely happy with your fit, we may ask you try on an unaltered vest before we make your custom options/alterations. Since we make them specifically for you, we can't take them back for refund or exchange even if you opt out of the trial process. Please contact us if you have any questions.

One of the most important options to consider when designing your own leather motorcycle vest is the type of leather you want. Elkskin is the most beautiful leather on the face of the earth. When done properly it has an unmistakable look and feel. It is a full grain, uncorrected leather with a lot of give to it when compressed but it is very stretch resistant and strong. Native Americans used it for clothing, armor, and shields. Elkskin takes well to washing and retains its supple nature if dried slowly at a low heat.

Elkskin leather combines strength and suppleness to outperform deer and cow. The best test of any leather is to make a work glove out of it, use it and see what happens. Deerskin will outlast cowhide and elkskin will outlast deerskin. Despite elk's strength and thickness, it is luxuriously supple and soft to the touch and has a very distinctive grain. Items made from full grain elk leather are unique works of art that will last for generations. Variability and distinctiveness are the characteristics of any full grain leather but more so with elk. Availability of Elkskin is spotty. Wanna feel it? Contact us for a sample today!

**Build your own pricing is based upon our standard stock sizing and pattern. Limited changes to fit our pattern are available, however, such will incur an additional $20 CUSTOM order fee.

Elkskin is harvested from wild animals and therefore it is possible there are more range marks and blemishes than found on domesticated hides. If you are looking for a consistent vinyl like appearance in your leather, where there is no variation in texture or shading, elk is not for you.

Please note for international orders only: by choosing Elkskin, you agree that a $15 charge will be added. Wildlife leather products including deerskin, buffalo, and elkskin for delivery outside the USA have to be inspected by the US Dept of Fish and Wildlife and will incur additional handling charges of $15 and a delay of about 1 business week.
