Chippewa® Arctic Boots
Chippewa was among the first to produce fully insulated boots for cold weather wear. At that time (the early 1950's) the primary insulation material was Nylabond, a fiber containing millions of air cells to hold in heat. In fact, Nylabond was the insulation material used by the refrigeration industry. Chippewa was the first to have a continuous vamp and quarter lining made from a quilted liner to provide added comfort - unheard of in the 1950's.
In the 1970's, Chippewa created the "Minus 40" and "Arctic 50" featuring their patented Kush-N-Collar. The "Minus 40" replaced the bulky military boot of the time.
-
Material:
- Heavy Duty Oiled Waterproof Leather.
-
Construction:
- Goodyear Welted Construction - Adds to boot durability. Boots are stitched not glued, meaning that the soles are completely replaceable. Not only does this construction allow you to repair and resole your boots, lateral support is second to none. Leather welts are very difficult to twist and this lateral support is especially important on uneven terrain.
- Kush-N-Kollar was designed by Chippewa to reduce the stress on the Achilles tendon while walking for long periods of time. This also provides an easier break-in time. All padded collars today are a variation of Chippewa's Kush-N-Kollar.
