<description>.....on the Isle of Skye..... I remember the Isle of Skye when I was doing the backpacker thing way, way, back in 1987. My friend and I, and a couple of young ladies we met at the Edinburgh YHA, spent a day there sightseeing. It was just going into winter, with the mist hanging low in the valleys and the partly snow-covered countryside, it created a very wild, almost eerie atmosphere. The scenery is similar to the mountains down here in North West Tasmania; a little closer to home. Although we stayed in YHA hostels, my mate and I were quite well off, as far as backpackers went, as we had an old Fiat Uno to get around in. It had no heater, a leaking fuel tank, and a rumbling front wheel bearing, but it got us around. We had to catch a ferry to get there, I think? It's too long ago....Although I remember the girls we took with us that day cooked us a roast chicken dinner when we got back to the hostel as a thank-you. I always remember a nice home-cooked dinner... It's a nice part of the world over there. I hope to get back there one day.
