These leathers are tanned using oils to protect and lubricate the fiber. They are generally thicker leathers and are considered work leathers although often used as casual boots.
Boots are subjected to the harshest treatment of all outdoor wear - they are truly "under pressure" to get the job done. This is especially hard on insulation because it works by creating air pockets in the fibers - the compacting action of walking effectively destroys the insulating factor. Chippewa uses Thinuslate Ultra Insulation for footwear over the toes, vamp, heel and ankle for maximum warmth.
The Chip-A-Tex Waterproof bootie surrounds your foot to keep the worst weather away from your skin, and the Dri-Lex lining wicks moisture away from your skin to keep the foot dry and comfortable.
