The Black Steel Training & Correction Bit has a 5" copper roller mouth and 8" cheeks. Training and correction bits come in a variety of styles to meet a rider's specific needs. The copper roller piece on the mouth encourages salivation and help the horse accept the bit more readily. Training and correction bits can be severe and should be used by experienced riders.

Cheeks refers to the sides of the bit, it includes both the purchase and the shank. The purchase is the part of the bit above the mouthpiece. A short purchase allows the bit to act quicker in a horse's mouth when the reins are pulled. With a longer purchase the bit is slower to react. The shank is the part of the bit located below the mouthpiece, it gives the rider leverage on the mouthpiece. The shorter the shank, the less control; the longer the shank, the more control the rider has.
